Every resume parsing vendor claims near-perfect accuracy. This guide gives you the evaluation framework that separates marketing from reality: the tests to run, the integration questions to ask, and the pricing traps to avoid.

Choosing well is less about the advertised accuracy number and more about how the tool behaves on your worst documents. 1. Accuracy on your documents, not theirs
Every demo uses clean, single-column, English PDFs. Your inbox does not. Before any commercial conversation, collect twenty real resumes: the two-column designs, the scanned pages, the seven-page consultant CVs, the one written in Comic Sans. Run them through the trial and count field errors yourself.
The single most predictive test: take the three resumes your recruiters complained about most recently and parse them. A tool that handles your edge cases will handle your average; the reverse is never true.
2. Language coverage
For agencies working in the Benelux or placing candidates across borders, multilingual parsing is not a feature, it is the baseline. Test one CV per language your desks handle, and pay attention to normalization, not just extraction: does “licentiaat” map to the right education level? Does a French date format survive?
3. Integration depth
“Integrates with your ATS” spans a huge range, from a Chrome extension that pastes text to a certified two-way sync. Ask precisely: does parsed data land in the correct ATS fields automatically? Does it update existing records or create duplicates? Which ATS platforms are supported natively, and which need middleware?
4. What happens after parsing
This is the criterion most buyers skip and most regret skipping. Parsing produces structured data; the value depends on what consumes it. Some tools stop at the database record. Others use the parsed data to reformat the CV into your agency template, tailor it to a vacancy, score it against open roles, or anonymize it for blind screening. If your end goal is faster submissions rather than cleaner records, evaluate the whole chain, not the parser in isolation.
5. GDPR and data residency
Resumes are personal data under the GDPR, and your clients’ DPOs will ask where processing happens. EU processing and storage, a signed DPA, and clear retention controls are the minimum for European agencies. Ask specifically whether resume content is used to train models, and whether you can opt out.

Build, buy, or bundled?
